Critical Control provides solutions for the collection, control and analysis of measurement and operational data related to oil and gas wells across North America. We provide services to capture the data, cloud-based software to visualize and manage it and the business intelligence to make quicker and more informed operational decisions.

  • George Watson, BSc Eng, MBA, AMP

    Chairman of the Board and Director

    Mr. Watson has been Chairman of the Board since June 2011. He held the position of CEO from July 2002 to September 2007, thereafter serving as Executive Chairman. After three years as Executive Chairman Mr. Watson achieved independence from management and became Chairman of the Board. Mr. Watson is the former President and CEO of TransCanada Pipelines Ltd. (March 1993 to July 1999). Prior to his role as CEO of TransCanada, Mr. Watson also served as CFO (June 1990 to March 1993). He has more than 35 years of experience in the oil patch, including positions at Dome Petroleum and as CEO of Intensity Resources Ltd. Mr. Watson sits on the boards of Teekay LNG LLP, Badger Daylighting Ltd., Forteleza Energy Inc., Mako Hydrocarbons Ltd. and Poplar Creek Resources Inc. Former directorships include the Conference Board of Canada, the Interstate Natural Gas Association of America, the Canadian Energy Pipelines Association, Queen’s University, Calgary Olympic Development Association (CODA), Equitorial Energy Puget Energy Inc., TGS North American Real Estate Investment Trust, TransCanada Pipelines and subsidiaries, Toronto Dominion Bank plus many other small entities. Mr. Watson holds a Bachelor of Science (Engineering) degree and MBA from Queens University, as well as an A.M.P. from Harvard, and has completed the Stanford Law School Director’s Program.

  • Alykhan Mamdani, BMath, LLB, LLM, CMA

    President & CEO, Director and Founder

    Mr. Mamdani has been the President of the Corporation since December 2003 and Chief Executive Officer since September 2007. He also served as the President & Chief Executive Officer of the Corporation from September 2001 to July 2002 and as the Chief Financial Officer of the Corporation from July 2002 to September 2007 and May 15, 2001 to August 29 2001. Mr. Mamdani has a Bachelor of Mathematics from the University of Waterloo, a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Western Ontario, and a Master of Laws in corporate law and finance from Widener University in Wilmington, Delaware. Mr. Mamdani is a member of the Law Society of Alberta, the New York Bar, and the Certified Management Accountants of Alberta. He is also a director of the Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada.

  • Dennis Nerland, QC, BSc, MA, JD, ICD.D, TEP


    Mr. Nerland has a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Calgary, a Master of Arts degree (Economics) from Carleton University and a Bachelor of Science degree (Economics and Mathematics) from the University of Calgary. In 2014, Mr. Nerland was appointed Queen’s Counsel (“Q.C.”) of Alberta. Mr. Nerland has been a Partner with the law firm of Shea Nerland Calnan LLP since 1990 practicing in the areas of tax and trust law. Mr. Nerland is a current and past director and officer of a number of private companies and public companies listed on the TSX and TSX Venture Exchange and is currently a trustee of a number of private investment trusts. Mr. Nerland has completed the Directors Education Program, jointly developed by the Institute of Corporate Directors (ICD) and Rotman School of Management, and has earned his ICD.D designation. Mr. Nerland has also successfully completed the Rotman Financial Literacy program.

  • Gary Bentham C.A., ICD.D


    Mr. Bentham is President of BTM Corporate Advisory Inc., an advisory firm founded in 2005 that provides corporate finance, restructuring and consulting services to privately-owned companies in Canada and the United States. Prior to 2005, he was a corporate recovery and audit partner with KPMG Canada where he served public and private companies in the high technology, financial services, real estate development and energy industries. Mr. Bentham is a Chartered Professional Accountant, has completed the Directors Education Program, jointly developed by the Institute of Corporate Directors (ICD) and Rotman School of Management, and has earned his ICD.D designation. Mr. Bentham is a current director of several private companies and public companies listed on the TSX Venture Exchange.

  • Kevin Lo, B.Sc., MBA, P. Eng


    Mr. Lo is the Vice President, New Ventures at Pason Systems Corporation, a public, multinational energy service company focused on drilling instrumentation. He served as Managing Director, Institutional Research at FirstEnergy Capital Corp from 2010 until April 2015. In addition to management responsibilities, he also worked as a publishing Equity Research Analyst at the firm between 2004 and 2015 covering energy services companies.  Mr. Lo also serves as an Advisory Board member of the Energy Insurance Group,  has a B.Sc. in Computer Engineering from the University of Alberta, an MBA from the University of Calgary, and is recognized by APEGA as a Professional Engineer.

  • Nizar Jaffer Somji


    Mr. Somji founded and currently serves as President and CEO of Jaffer Inc., a real estate, investment and hospitality company with assets in Canada and the USA. Nizar also founded and is the former President and CEO of Matrikon Inc., a recognized leader in industrial intelligence for the oil and gas industry. Matrikon was acquired by Honeywell in June 2010.
